10th April 2018 – Senator Martin Conway
Clare Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway is backing the proposal by Clare County Council to seek Government approval to designate the County Clare side of the University of Limerick (UL) campus and its surrounding area as an Economic Strategic Development Zone.
“I welcome the news today that Clare County Council are seeking Government approval for this partnership with UL. The SDZ has the capacity to not only develop the area in terms of living, working and social amenities alongside the facilities of the University but also has the capacity to create significant employment in the region of South Clare.
“The Clare side of the UL campus is home to UL’s Graduate Medical School, its Health Sciences Building and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance and its facilities will continue to expand as the University grows. Since its foundation UL has has a significant positive impact on the Mid West Economy and it is important that this next step in developing a SDZ is taken to enable South Clare and UL to reach their full potential.
“I am fully committed to backing Clare County Councils application to Government for the SDZ and will push this issue with my colleagues in Fine Gael over the coming weeks.
